10 Tips for a More Productive Day

Leading an “organized” life begins with small, consistent daily choices. Here are 10 tips to help you have a more productive day, whether you’re tackling an organizational project or simply performing your typical daily tasks.

1. MAKE YOUR BED

This simple habit puts you in a positive mindset for the rest of the day. It’s an easy task that sets the tone for the day ahead.

2. EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST

Eating a decent breakfast fuels you and provides you with energy to kickstart your day. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, but make sure to include some protein and healthy fat (eggs, Greek yogurt, peanut butter, etc.).

3. MAKE A TO-DO LIST

There is something so satisfying about crossing things off a list! Once you get on a roll, it becomes addictive! Jot your list down on paper, use Notes on your iPhone, or hang a dry erase board in your entryway or home office. Soon, that to-do list will become your TA-DA! list.

4. PRIORITIZE

A priority is a task we believe to be more important that something else. It’s important to be aware of our priorities each day so we aren’t counterproductive by spending our time on tasks that aren’t as valuable. When creating your to-do list, place your most important tasks first and work your way down. This way, you’ll feel more at ease when you complete the more urgent tasks.

5. LIMIT DISTRACTIONS

Distractions are a procrastinator’s best friend. Try to limit the number of temptations around you. Turn off the television, and if you don’t need your phone, turn on the ‘Do not disturb’ function so you won’t get sidetracked. Make sure the environment you are in will not inhibit your productivity. If a workspace is cluttered or dirty, your mind can’t focus properly and you aren’t nearly as efficient.

6. LEARN TO SAY NO

If you’re a people pleaser, learning to say no to others can be tough. However, if you know you have a busy day or deadlines and need to get tasks done, you may have to sacrifice coffee with friends to ensure you get through your list. You’re in control of your own productivity!

7. ALLOCATE BREAK TIMES

Planning time slots during your day to have a break, eat something, or go outside is important and a good way to keep your productivity levels high. Knowing you have a break coming up keeps you motivated until then. Here are 12 Snack Foods to Boost Energy! Yum! A brisk walk is also fantastic to rev up your productivity mid-task.

8. LIMIT MULTI-TASKING

Focus on one thing at a time rather than bouncing in between a few. This ensures you complete tasks in their entirety (especially those at the top of your to-do list!) instead of only partially completing just a few.

9. BE INSPIRED

It helps to surround yourself with inspiration and things that will motivate you. Maybe you’ll choose to display photos of loved ones in your work space, or positive affirmations that are especially meaningful to you. Whatever they are, have things around you that will inspire you!

10. GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP

Getting enough sleep will increase your energy and heighten your mood. When you’re sleep deprived, it’s hard to concentrate and work effectively. Try to catch 7-9 hours of zzz’s each night and notice how much better you can focus and function!

We hope these tips help you as you face your next daunting project or busy day. Here’s to productivity!
